THE REGION

"I'm certain this was originally all forest. Over thousands of years men have cleared the trees for many purposes but now they are needed again."
Eric Lansdown

L'Hérault and its trees

We are in Hérault, a department in the region of Occitanie, known for its mediterranean climate, vineyards, olive groves, and various landscapes.

This is where we gather acorns during a short transition period. There are a variety of oaks here, from white oaks to green oaks - the evergreens that are the hardest and most adapted to the harsh dry climate here. Every tree is an individual and like animals no two are identical, so we search for the healthiest and hardiest. You will have plenty of time to explore the forests and keep an eye for impressive trees that are going to produce acorns in the coming season.

"The tree is more than a first seed, then a stem, then a living trunk, and then dead timber. The tree is a slow, enduring force straining to win the sky."
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Gabian

The socialising part of living in a little village is the local café after work or cafés and bars in other villages on days off. The villages are 5 to 10 away by car or 20 to 40 minutes away by bicycle. There are some great places to hike and swim in the hills nearby, depending on the time of year.

The rich history of the village is reflected in the architectural style of the old village centre, dating back to the early mediaeval times.
